Liso Hockysumie: The Rise of a Hustler's Anthem

Breaking Barriers with "Overtime"

My hit single Overtime did not only break barriers but stood as a symbol of hope for many who endlessly hustle. It’s an anthem of hustle and grind, a reminder that success doesn’t come easy—it’s earned through sleepless nights, unwavering dedication, and an unshakable belief in one's craft.

The Inspiration Behind the Track

Growing up in Ezibeleni, Queenstown, I saw firsthand what it means to work hard without immediate rewards. My parents, my friends, and the people around me embodied the very essence of persistence. Overtime is not just a song—it’s a tribute to those who refuse to give up, those who chase dreams even when the odds seem impossible.

The Sound and Production

Blending hard-hitting 808s, soulful Xhosa melodies, and raw storytelling, Overtime brings a unique sound to the South African hip-hop scene. Produced by T-Man Beatz, the track fuses boom-bap influences with modern trap elements, creating a sonic landscape that resonates with every dreamer on the grind.

"Overtime, overtime / Late nights, I stay on my grind / Never stop, we multiply / One day we gon' touch the sky."

These lyrics capture the spirit of Overtime—a journey of relentless ambition, powered by the desire to succeed against all odds.

Impact on the Culture

Since its release, Overtime has become more than just a song. It’s a movement. From taxi ranks in Jozi to university dorm rooms in Cape Town, the track echoes in the hearts of students, entrepreneurs, and artists alike. Social media exploded with #OvertimeChallenge, where fans shared their late-night grind moments—whether working, studying, or perfecting their craft.

What’s Next?

With Overtime setting the stage, I’m gearing up for my next project—a full-length album titled "Dreams Don’t Sleep", set to drop later this year. The project will dive deeper into my journey, featuring collaborations with SA hip-hop heavyweights and emerging talents from the Eastern Cape.

I’m just getting started. The hustle continues.
